To read or not to read

Every now and again i go through these stages where all i want to do is read. I'll read book after book after book and then it just stops and no matter how interesting the book may be i just can't get into it.

So as of right now I'm on a reading kick... I just finished reading the book The Shack by William P. Young. I have to say my natural reaction once i finished reading the book was that i had to tell everyone about it. I wanted everyone to read this book, in my opinion it was that good. Then i started to think how many times had someone tried to push some book they just finished reading on me? Well if they're anything like I am when I finish reading a book, all the time. Will I read it? Well maybe not then and there but there's a good possibility that i'll get around to it. Depending on the book of course. If its a "Twilight" book probably not.

When it comes to books and movies, titles, quotes and characters just stick in my head. It doesn't matter if I've only seen the movie or read the book once these things just stay there...in my brain. Sometimes its a good thing other times not so good because i'll go on quoting movies and sometimes just to myself. Makes for interesting stares though. My whole point to this is that you can't really make someone read a book. They have to be in the mood to read or simply just want to read. There's a quote from the movie The Hurricane that popped into my head when I stumbled upon this little revelation "sometimes we don't pick the books we read, they pick us". Well said. At the time i thought it was a funny little joke. Like a book was just going to fall at my feet while I was walking through Barnes & Noble or something. Yeah probably not gonna happen.

I just now finished reading this book and I've had friends trying to get me to read this book for over a year. Just wasn't the right time, not yet. After reading this book it makes sense to me why I waited until now to read it. Now I'm going to do my best not to be that guy who's pushing another book on you to read. But I will say this, when you've got some questions floating around in your head that you just can't seem to get answers to, or you find yourself in a rut and can't seem to get out of it keep this book in mind.
